Naga Munchetty: BBC Breakfast star shares fears over on-air swipe ‘I’ll probably be sued’

Naga Munchetty jokes that she’ll get sued by Angel Delight

Naga Munchetty, 45, has voiced her worries after bickering with her BBC Radio 5 Live co-star Nihal Arthanayake, 49, about his “addiction” to a classic British dessert. The duo got into a light-hearted debate after Naga interviewed a woman who shared her decision to quit fizzy drinks after realising she was drinking too much of them on a daily basis.

Naga, who also fronts BBC Breakfast with Charlie Stayt, then introduced Nihal onto the airwaves and asked him if he’s got “an addictive personality” in reference to her earlier chat with the woman.

She told listeners earlier this week: “Nihal is coming up after 1 o’clock.

“Have you got an addictive personality Nihal?”

“Oh yes I do,” the TV and radio presenter chuckled in response.

Naga laughed and then suggested: “Should we discuss our addictions and vices off-air?”

Nihal seemed to appreciate his co-star’s idea, adding: “Yeah we’ll do that on DMs I think, not live on national radio!”

However, Nihal then continued to spill details about his latest food obsession as he chatted to Naga.

He revealed: “At the moment, it’s strawberry Angel Delight.

“Two nights in a row – two packets of strawberry Angel Delight.”

Naga was quick to object to Nihal’s choice of sweet treat, as she claimed “it’s not even food”.

The star exclaimed: “That’s wrong, that’s wrong, that’s just wrong!

“Two nights that you’ve had a full packet?

“It’s not even food, it’s not even food, it’s just chemicals in there!”

Naga then suddenly decided to stop airing her views about the product, as she light-heartedly mused: “I’ll probably be sued now, but…”

Fortunately, despite Naga’s concerns about sharing her opinions, Nihal was quick to defend the classic dessert.

He hit back: “What do you mean?

“Sorry, it says contains real fruit on it!” The star informed Naga, while addressing its ingredients.

Although, Nihal also clarified that he didn’t think the dessert counted as one of the five portions of fruit and vegetables that are recommended to be consumed every day as part of a healthy diet.

He added: “Hold on, there are kids homeschooling at the moment.

“Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting that it’s one of your Five A Day. But it’s kind of retro desserts isn’t it?”

“Yes, it’s not one of your Five A Day,” Naga agreed.

BBC Breakfast airs today at 6am on BBC One.

Naga Munchetty hosts BBC Radio 5 Live from 11am to 1pm – Mondays to Wednesdays.
