Grammy-nominated music producer Ricky Reed has made an appeal to music industry members to cancel all their music-related plans that will bring them in close contact.
In a message posted on Medium in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Reed urged all musicians, songwriters, producers, artists, those working in music business, his friends, and family to “press pause” on songwriting sessions, meetings and shows.
“If you are a label head, publisher, or artist reading this article while conducting a songwriting camp for your artist or yourself, please join us in pressing pause. Our collective talent and hunger will be here waiting for the opportunity when we are past this,” Reed wrote.
He begged them to stop doing their favorite things “just for a few weeks,” adding, “No sessions. No meetings. No shows. No going to packed bars. No eating at restaurants. No brunch.”
Reed cited an incident in South Korea, where one person attended church and a buffet lunch and was responsible for infecting 1,000 people.
Reed also said he is going to try his first writing session over FaceTime / Skype this week. “I’m going to plan a scheduled Instagram Live session and take feedback on a new track in real time,” he added.
The signatories to Reed’s appeal include Lizzo, Shawn Mendes, Finneas, and Bebe Rexha.
