Kirstie Allsopp took to Twitter last night to share her thoughts while watching the Brit Awards 2021. The Channel 4 presenter asked the entertainment industry to stop reminding viewers about the pandemic, while dubbing the ceremony a “downer”.

“When are broadcasters going to realise that Entertainment is designed to entertain, not remind us there is a pandemic?

“I find myself more and more heading to pre-Covid content,” she wrote online, in view of her 427,600 followers.

Kirstie made her comments as the music industry came together to celebrate the best British musicians and artists at the O2 Arena in London.

The ceremony was watched by a live audience of 4,000 people, over half of which were key workers.

The 49-year-old said she hoped they were able to enjoy the show despite the constant reminders about COVID-19.

“Full credit to @Expedia for having an ad which doesn’t bang on about Covid. Unlike the @BRITs which seems to be intent on being a complete downer,” the Love It Or List It star tweeted.

“I hope the Key Workers who are there (hopefully supermarket staff included) can still enjoy it.”

One such worker reached out to the TV star to thank her for recognising how hard they had been working during the pandemic.

“I’m a supermarket worker my lovely. And, truth be told we are knackered.

“Thank you for the recognition. A thank you, excuse me is all we ask,” the message read.

“I bet you are!! Every time I see someone who is behind a screen in a mask all day try to understand what is being asked or said and remaining cheerful I think it must be so hard. “THANK YOU,” Kirstie replied.

During the awards show, Kirstie went on to share a post from radio DJ Jo Whiley, which praised British band Coldplay and later asked for TV shows to stop talking about the pandemic.

“Just in case anyone is planning to be cynical about Coldplay, don’t!” the presenter wrote alongside the original post.

“Just FYI Chris, Will, Johnny and Guy are the kindest & most altruistic people I know.

“There will be countless people who’ve benefited from their generosity throughout their career. They don’t have a bad bone in their bodies. That is all,” Jo wrote online.

“I could be wrong but this year’s Brits seem full of really good souls.

“Well either that or I’m 44 and need Whiley guidance on more than just Coldplay,” one viewer wrote in the comments section of the post.

“I wish it wasn’t so Covid triggering,” Kirstie hit back.

“Do they have to talk about it all the time?! I want a night off!” she continued.
