One half of Irish singing group Jedward has taken to social media to reveal he has undergone emergency surgery for a “life threatening” situation. Edward Grimes, 27, posted a hospital selfie after coming round from surgery to remove his appendix, where he reassured fans that he was “on the road to recovery” whilst lamenting the fact he will miss watching the Eurovision Song Contest with his twin brother John this evening.

Posting from his hospital bed, the singing sensation assured his 687,300 fans that he was okay.

He wrote: “Just had immediate surgery to remove my appendix. It was a life threatening and scary situation but I’m grateful the emergency team have operated on me and stopped the agony.

“I’m healing and on the road to recovery!” he added.

The star posted the update along with a selfie that showed him lying in a hospital bed, with a mask pulled over his face and giving the peace sign.

Not long after, the one half of the presenting duo returned to the social media to urge his followers to take abdominal pain seriously.

He wrote: “Thank you for your caring messages.”

The Irish native went on to reveal that he knew “something wasn’t right” when he experienced “severe” pain, which was confirmed by a series of medical tests.

Edrward penned: “I’m urging everyone to please take severe pain in the abdominal area seriously as I’ve never experienced excruciating pain like this and knew something wasn’t right.

“Blood tests and CT scans indicated I needed surgery.”

The star went on to explain his appendicitis was diagnosed just in time and he soon underwent surgery to remove the organ.

He continued: “I’m grateful it was caught in time just knowing the feeling that your bod

However, the presenter went on to bemoan that the incident had occurred on the worst day of the year – the Eurovision Song Contest.

“Like of all times of the year it had to be Eurovision night, here alone not watching it with John and my family and dogs is wtf,” he ended the post with.

Jedward appeared on the international song contest in 2011 and 2012, where they finished in eighth and 19th place.

Following the news, fans of the star flocked to comment on the post in a bid to wish him well.

One wrote: “So sorry you’ve been through such an ordeal, Just keep looking after number one Edward.”

Another added: “Sorry you’re missing your Eurovision night, It’s horrible missing out on things because you’re not well, but your health is more important and you’ll be better before you know it!” (sic)

While a third penned: “So glad you are okay, wishing you a super speedy recovery.”

Days ago the duo posted a 10-year-old throwback of themselves performing at Eurovision in Dusseldorf sporting bright red blazers and their signature platinum blonde quiff.
