Dan Walker, 42, regularly keeps fans updated with the happenings of his day-to-day life on Twitter. The BBC Breakfast star was left taken aback by the recent comments by a social media user before he explained that he was suffering from a broken filling.

The tooth revelation comes after the person in question reacted to Dan’s latest book Remarkable People.

They penned: “Not my normal reading but @mrdanwalker has done a great job with this.

“A meritocracy of kindness and caring skills. The chapter on @OldhamCollege and Terrence would make any FE Principal proud. Buy it!”

The social media user was making reference to a chapter in the book, where Dan surprised Terrence, 78, with a festive tree and a carol performance after he’d spent 20 Christmases alone.

The BBC Breakfast host requested that the person in question leave a review – to which they agreed – before he admitted his comments had made him emotional.

In view of his 669,000 Twitter followers, Dan replied: “This is liable to send me over the emotional edge. I’m on quite hefty painkillers because of a broken filling.

“I’m so glad you like it. Maybe you should make it a core text for the college?”

The Twitter user replied: “Well I hope you’re better soon. It’s a fantastic chapter and we can do lots with it.”

The heartwarming message comes after Dan recently released his new book Remarkable People: Extraordinary Stories of Everyday Lives where he recounts inspiring stories from those he has met throughout his long-standing career.

Meanwhile, the BBC host appeared to not be letting his tooth injury stop him from tucking into sweet treats.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, Dan shared a snap of a treacle toffee.

He wrote: “Treacle toffee [plus] dodgy filling [equals] absolute dental fail,” before adding: “I wish I could smile.”

Viewers flocked to comment on the post, as social media users inundated the BBC host with replies.

One person replied: “Same happened to me just before the first lockdown. Managed to get to the dentist and get it sorted. Next day was lockdown. Hope you are lucky too.”

“My hubby just lost his filling to a Rolo. Serves him right for keeping them to himself! Now having to wait ‘on a list’ to see the dentist,” another person commented.

While a third person added: “Well @mrdanwalker if anything’s gonna do it that certainly will! Hope you get sorted in the current situation we find ourselves in!” (sic)

Elsewhere, Dan and his co-host Louise were absent from BBC Breakfast on Wednesday’s edition of the programme due to the US election.

Viewers tuned in to see Katty Kay and Andrew Neil present the special programme for the coverage of Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s race to the Whitehouse.

Katty and Andrew were with viewers every step of the way as the race of the next president of the United States continued.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
