2020 was full of doom and gloom but Ant McPartlin, 45, was determined to round the year off on a high – by proposing to his girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett on Christmas Eve. He and TV partner Dec Donnelly had just wrapped filming for the highly-anticipated UK version of I’m A Celebrity when Ant got down on one knee and asked his beloved to marry him, but looking towards the wedding he was unsure whether his best pal would get to be his best man.

I suppose it depends on what kind of wedding we have

In a recent joint interview, the nation’s favourite TV couple sat down and revealed their excitement for Ant’s upcoming nuptials.

“It was a lovely way to end the year,” he beamed.

“I’m a romantic at heart. You know, there were flowers, and afternoon tea in front of the Christmas tree. Lovely. It was lovely.”

But when it came down to the big day, Ant wan’t sure how they were going to celebrate.

Ant and ex-wife Lisa Armstrong, finalised their divorce – including custody battle over their beloved Labrador Hurley – last year – reportedly agreeing a deal worth £31million, ending their 12 year marriage.

Of course, Dec was present at their wedding all those years ago, and Ant revealed he did a very good job at being best man.

“He [Dec] was very good last time,” he giggled.

“He has been my best man, I’ve been his best man.

He continued to tell Digital Spy magazine: “But I suppose it depends on what kind of wedding we have. There’s been no plans.”

Dec chimed in with a little joke: “I think it’s between me and the dog!”

Ant and Anne-Marie officially began dating in April 2018 and was said to be Ant’s “rock” as he went to rehab after being convicted of drink driving.

Anne-Marie, who worked as a personal assistant, has two daughters from her relationship with ex-husband Scott Corbett.

The Geordie star is notoriously private when it comes to his home life but in December, just weeks before he opted the question, the Britain’s Got Talent star made a rare comment about his relationship.

Speaking during the grand finale of I’m a Celeb, Ant was asked by finalist Jordan North where his “happy place” was, to which Ant sweetly replied: “At home with my girlfriend and the kids.”

While on the topic of I’m A Celebrity, the boys revealed the ITV show’s plans for next year.

“If during coronavirus we have to stay put and do it in Wales again, I’d be very happy. We were very welcomed in Wales,” Ant explained.

“There were cardboard cut-outs of me and Dec in the butcher’s, and the local school did a tribute. We’d happily go back there. We’d miss the sunshine, mind.”

Dec added: “The people in Wales were lovely. They made us feel very welcome. I had a lovely time.

“I will miss the sunshine, but I will not miss the jetlag of coming back from Australia. I’d love to go back to Oz. But if we had to go back to Wales, I wouldn’t be disappointed.”

It comes after the survival show was moved to home soil after Covid travel restrictions made getting to the sunny shores of Australia far too difficult.
