Alexandra Burke has revealed despite being put through her paces on the incredibly tough course on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which started last week, she found the mental strength to cope because it was nothing compared to what her mum had been through in life, or what it was like to lose her.

In a new interview, the X Factor winner admitted that she rates her own mental strength “quite high”.

Asked how she thought she would manage going into the special forces course, the star shared: “If I'm completely honest, I would rate my mental strength quite high.

“And that's me being very honest and not being big-headed about it either.

“My mental strength, honestly, comes from a place where I've seen my mum go through so many ups and downs in her life and her career,” Alexandra continued, going on to say that nothing could have prepared her for her mum Melissa Bell’s death.

“I’ve seen her raise four children by herself with the help of my grandfather and my auntie. I've seen and witnessed so much,” the star shared. “It’s coming up to four years since losing my mum, there's nothing that prepares you for losing a parent.

“I think that is where my strength comes from because I don't have an excuse in my eyes to be anything but strong,” the 33 year old added.

It comes as Alexandra recently reflected on her journey on the popular show with a series of personal pictures from behind the scenes.

Alexandra captioned her post: “I’ve had so many messages about the first episode of @sas_whodareswins. I’ve finally got around to watching it. Can’t lie, I felt sick knowing everyone is about to see what we all went through.

The singer and former Strictly Come Dancing star appeared to be smiling and laughing her way through the tense experience, sharing selfies with the other celebs during various outdoor sessions on the Scottish Hebrides.

In one snap, Alexandra posed with some of her teammates as they walked by a lake, including former Loose Women presenter Saira Khan, who recently denied taking legal action against the show for giving her "lifelong scars".

While in another, she took an arty shot of their wet and muddy walking boots.

The Channel 4 series stars Ant Middleton in his last edition of the UK version, Jason Fox, and Billy Billingham.

Alongside Alexandra, celebrities such as Vicky Pattison, and Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell are also getting put through their paces by the former Special Forces soldiers.
