A Place In The Sun host Jonnie Irwin has opened up about his family life with his wife Jessica Holmes and the couple’s three children; twins Rafa and Cormac and their one-year-old son Rex. The Channel 4 presenter opened up about his constant travel while filming the property show abroad.

The 47-year-old admitted he finds it particularly “hard” having to leave his family when he goes overseas.

Speaking about what he misses most while away, aside from his loved ones, he revealed it was his Sunday roast.

The small-screen star said that there are times that he often misses out on cherished moments and downtime with his spouse and offspring.

Jonnie explained: “There’s a lot of travel. Every Sunday morning you wave goodbye to your family.

“You don’t have your Sunday roast with them you have it an airport, queuing behind someone.

“Leaving your family behind – it’s particularly hard.”

He continued: “And as glamorous as people think it is, when you do it day in and day out you do take things for granted.

“You’re going somewhere because it’s their dream, not necessarily yours.”

Jonnie added: “Your wife or your child might be ill at home and your thousands of miles away. [The show] comes with its sacrifices.

“You’re spending 25 to 30 weeks a year away from your family and friends. That does weigh on you sometimes.

“The upside is that you’re travelling. You’re constantly moving and I quite like that.”

Addressing his future on the programme, he explained he had no plans to stop presenting A Place In The Sun but said he needs to “spend more time with his family”.

The presenter shared his plans to remain on the Channel 4 property show for as long as possible.

“I want to present [A Place In The Sun] for as long as the programme’s being made. I love the show,” Jonnie gushed.

“I’ve been doing this since I was 30-years-old – footloose and fancy free.

“But now I’ve got responsibilities I want to fulfil but I still want to film the show, and as long as the public want me to present the programme I’ll continue.”

Since the third nationwide lockdown following the coronavirus pandemic, Jonnie has got a chance to spend a lot more time with his loved ones as A Place In The Sun was forced to stop filming following the current travel restrictions.

Jonnie tied the knot with his wife Jessica in 2016 and the couple welcomed their twin sons in July last year.

The Channel 4 presenter first joined the programme alongside Jasmine Harman in 2004.

A Place In The Sun airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 3pm.
