Woman overhauls ‘smelly’ council flat with dodgy 80s decor & it’s now a slick, modern sanctuary – The Sun

A THRIFTY woman has wowed social media users after sharing photos of her completely revamped 'smelly' council flat.

After her marriage broke down in September, the Facebook user found herself moving into a small one-bedroom council flat.

Sadly the previous tenants had neglected the lodgings and the place had run into total disrepair.

With the help of a bit of hard work and some elbow grease, the woman totally revamped her new home to give it a completely new feel.

Taking to the Facebook group Extreme Budget DIY & Life Hacks to share the incredible transformation, the woman was thrilled to share her story with fellow money savers.

She wrote: "Back in September I had a marriage breakdown and literally had to start from scratch. I moved into a 1 bedroom council flat.

"The decor was horrific and the smell was awful. However with a bit of hard graft and my savings have dissolved but I'm now really happy with how far I've come.

"It's my lil safe haven and I absolutely love it," she added.

Priot to its makeover, the flat was once decorated with a mish-mash of different patterns and colours. One area was pasted with a fake book print, while another print attempted to look like brickwork.

Since its new tenant moved in, the flat has undergone a total transformation and now feels like an airy modern home.

The upstairs bedroom was once looked old and worn, with a musty maroon carpet and busy wallpaper.

With a lick of purple paint and a new grey carpet, the room has had a girly makeover and looks much better for it.

The hallway was originally pasted with a busy wallpaper printed with books and a drab carpet.

These have been replaced with white walls, grey carpet and a simple palm leaf print, bringing a new sense of calm to the stairway area.

Sticking to a colour palette of red, grey, white and brown, the woman has totally transformed her living and dining rooms.

People were quick to commend the woman's handiwork, showering her with compliments.

One person wrote: "Absolutely beautiful. You've done an amazing job. Well done."

Another wrote: "I'm really proud of you. My mum went through something similar when i was a child. You've done a great decorating job and your home looks so cosy."

A third added: "I bet you were glad to see the back of that migraine headache paper all over the house especially stairs and landing , you really have done a fantastic job, good luck for the future."
