Mornings are indiscriminately hard on everyone. To get through hers, Grimes starts her day by eating chewable coffee.
“Usually, I wake up and it’s a struggle,” she says in the latest episode of Food Diaries. “So I actually have these things I keep by the bed called GO Cubes that are caffeinated cubes. And I usually just eat one of those and go back to sleep, and then slowly the caffeine enters my system, and then I wake up.”
In this episode, Grimes dishes about everything you can expect to find on her plate beyond sunup to sundown, including unexpected pregnancy cravings, her go-to date night meal, and that time she ate nothing but spaghetti for two years.
Along with coffee cubes, Grimes’s breakfast includes “this thing called butter toast, which is where I melt a stick of butter on a plate, and then I put toast, and then turn the toast over so the toast is completely saturated in butter. Then, I put a little bit of jam on it and eat that. It’s actually incredible.” We believe her!
When she’s not eating butter toast, she reaches for a “fortified cereal, like Raisin Bran.”
The musician adds that she’s not a big fan of fruit—or any block of the food pyramid, for that matter, that doesn’t include carbs. “I actually dislike vegetables pointedly,” she admits. “But they’re important to eat. It’s just vile. Like, broccoli? Like, what the fuck? It’s actually disgusting, I don’t know how anyone eats it.”
