A MAN has been slammed for not offering his seat to a heavily pregnant woman on a bus – but insists it's "not his fault she decided to have a baby".
Even the bloke's own family were left fuming as he defended his decision by saying he's on his feet all day at work so deserves to sit down while travelling home.
The man normally drives to work but his car was written off in an accident – resulting in him having to catch public transport until he buys a new one.
He explained that his job involves him being on his feet for 10-hours straight so he "genuinely cherishes" being able to sit down on the bus before his 20 minute walk from the bus top home.
He posed the question on Reddit asking why he should have to give up his seat after his actions infuriated other passengers – and people were fuming.
He wrote: "So last night I’m on the bus, and a very heavily pregnant lady gets on. She looks around for a seat, only to find there are no available ones left.
"I'm the closest to her, so she starts giving me the imploring eyes. I had my headphones on and tried to pretend I couldn’t see her, but once she started talking to me it became inevitable.
"I wasn’t rude or anything, I just told her no, I’ve had a long day and my feet are sore. I don’t want to give up my seat."
The anonymous bloke said the woman "started crying about how she’s a pregnant single mom" but he insisted that it wasn't his problem.
"I told her I’m sorry, but that was her personal choice and she can’t expect other people to accommodate her life choices.
I told her I’m sorry, but that was her personal choice and she can’t expect other people to accommodate her life choices.
"We live in a state where birth control and abortions are free, so I don’t know why this should be my problem. It's not my fault she decided to have a baby when she can’t afford a car."
He said that an elderly man even called him a "worthless punk" after witnessing the exchange, and gave up his own seat instead.
The man said he just "looked the other way and ignored it".
When he got home he told his family what had happened and they were left shocked and speechless by his actions.
He said: "I don’t know why we need to keep perpetuating the idea that breeding somehow means your entitled to people's seats."
While he'd hoped to find people who agreed with him, he was instead a target of abuse from enraged Reddit users.
"Did you know that being heavily pregnant really alters your balance, let alone the tired thing?
"No, you didn't ask her to be pregnant, but you can, as an able-bodied otherwise healthy person just choose to be nice. Bringing up the contraception/abortion/'breeding' angle too really makes you an a**."
Some people, however, remained dived, with one saying: " You don't owe anything to anyone that makes different life choices.
"Completely agree on this with you, just because she's pregnant, she doesn't get to have her way, she could've gotten the seat from someone else but chose to make a scene. "
